Uses & Indications

Cisatracurium Besilate is used as an adjunct to general anesthesia to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Storage Requirements

Store at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F) and protect from light. Do not freeze. Once removed from refrigeration, the product should be used within 21 days.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose

The initial dose for intubation is typically 0.15 to 0.2 mg/kg administered intravenously. Maintenance doses of 0.03 mg/kg may be given as needed, usually every 20 to 40 minutes. Continuous infusion may be used at a rate of 1 to 3 mcg/kg/min.

Pediatric Dose

For children aged 2 to 12 years, the initial dose is 0.1 to 0.15 mg/kg IV. Maintenance doses of 0.02 mg/kg may be administered as needed. For infants aged 1 month to 2 years, the initial dose is 0.15 mg/kg IV, with maintenance doses of 0.03 mg/kg as needed.

Side Effects

Common side effects include bradycardia, hypotension, flushing, and prolonged neuromuscular block. Rarely, it may cause anaphylactic reactions.

Contraindications & Precautions

Cisatracurium Besilate is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cisatracurium, atracurium, or any component of the formulation. Use with caution in patients with neuromuscular diseases, electrolyte imbalances, or severe acid-base disturbances.

Important Warnings

Cisatracurium Besilate should only be administered by or under the supervision of experienced clinicians familiar with the use of neuromuscular blocking agents. Adequate facilities for intubation, artificial respiration, oxygen therapy, and reversal agents should be immediately available. Use with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis or other neuromuscular disorders.
